As Pride month comes to a close and the celebrations of our community are fresh in our memory, we also have a responsibility to look ahead at what the future holds for LGBTQ+ Americans. Here at Pink Robin we like to focus on the positive; We like to highlight queer resilience and successes, and we like to remind you that our community is strong, capable and thriving.
Still, we can’t hide from the brutal truth that our rights are always at stake. Every election season is a reminder that our community frequently faces hate, bigotry and discrimination. From our appearances, our relationships and our access to healthcare, LGBTQ+ people are frequently treated as second-class citizens. Our government is regularly flip-flopping on the rights of gay and trans Americans, and the whiplash is real.

According to a GLAAD article published this week, “A coalition of far-right organizations has a plan for the U.S. federal government if one of their allies returns to the Oval Office on January 20, 2025.” Spearheaded by the far-right Heritage Organization, “the project is a 180-day playbook of regulations and executive orders that could be signed and implemented by the next president upon taking office … “
The 887-page playbook outlines a plan to strip many Americans–including LGBTQ+ people–of our rights, including those that are currently federally protected.
The next conservative President must make the institutions of American civil society hard targets for woke culture warriors. This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists.

Elections matter, and much is at stake in this year’s Presidential election. We implore every member of the queer community and every LGBTQ+ ally to stand up against this hate, and spread our message of inclusion.
