TRUMP'S GETTING, SUED.
Okay, this isn’t unusual. But here’s info on the latest lawsuits that challenge the Trump Administration’s attacks on LGBTQ+ Americans.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to a law in Colorado that bans conversion therapy, an often abusive and dangerous practice aimed at changing the sexual orientations or gender identities of LGBTQ+ youth. A Christian therapist in Colorado appealed to the court that the ban violates her freedom of speech. The Supremes will hear this case when they reconvene in October.
The Supreme Court is also hearing a case in which Samantha and Brian Williams of Nashville, TN and their 15-year-old transgender daughter are challenging a Tennessee law banning gender-affirming care for transgender people under 18. Oral arguments took place in December 2024, and you can find updates from the ACLU by clicking here.

A case against Trump’s transgender military ban is being heard by a U.S. District Court Judge in Washington, DC. In Talbott v. Trump., the judge is set to issue a decision before the end of the month as to whether to issue a preliminary injunction that would block implementation of the transgender military ban resulting from President Trump’s executive order. According to Glad Law, “The Talbott case has 20 plaintiffs who are experiencing significant harms as the result of the ban, including paused deployments, forced administrative leave, delay or denial of essential medical care, and other significant harms including what would eventually result in the end of their military careers by being discharged through administrative separation, a process used to address instances of misconduct.” Click here for more.
According to NBC News, Harvard professors are suing the Trump Administration over the removal of LGBTQ research from its website. “The Harvard faculty members, Dr. Gordon Schiff and Dr. Celeste Royce, said their peer-reviewed studies were taken down from the Patient Safety Network website, which is operated by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).” The lawsuit argues that the removal is both unlawful and dangerous, and is backed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Yale Law School’s Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic. The lawsuit was filed March 12th in U.S District Court in Boston. Click here for the full story.
NPR reports that the block on Trump’s executive orders restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs has been lifted. “The decision from a three-judge panel allows the orders to be enforced as a lawsuit challenging them plays out.” The Trump administration seeks to end government support for DEI programs, and this ruling is a setback for those of us who disagree with the administration’s attacks on DEI initiatives. One of the judges, however, wrote that “My vote should not be understood as agreement with the orders’ attack on efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion,” but instead that the injunction went too far.
The suit was filed in February in Maryland. Click here for more.
Most recently, “Three transgender people currently incarcerated in federal custody have filed a class action lawsuit against the Trump Administration and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) challenging an Executive Order and new BOP policies prohibiting their access to gender-affirming care,” according to the ACLU. Kingdom v. Trump was filed on behalf of two transgender men and one transgender woman serving sentences in facilities in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Florida, whose treatments for gender dysphoria have been or will soon be suspended.
