Homocasual is a shirt of irony and interpretation.
At some point, I believe, upon reaching a certain amount of self-knowledge and acceptance, one actually does become casual about their [homo]sexuality.
However, up until your straight identity has broken and your non-straight identity is built, your sexuality isn’t something you are casual about.
No. It is something you are very, very careful about — something you continuously attempt to mold to the norm, to expectation.
The design itself gives nod to a kind of casual lifestyle brand and aesthetic — it’s designed in the image of casual apparel. The caption, “haven’t really thought about it” acts casual. It literally reads, “homocasual.”
But that’s the whole thing; it’s an act.
It’s a humorous act. It’s to poke fun at the experience, at the truth, which is something like, “I’m actually homosensitive. I’ve actually really thought about it.”
